Over 1 ¾’ (1.81”) height. Silvered bronze, shaped as a stylized duck's foot. A burial at Viden, Denmark contained the body of a woman of wealth and status buried with henbane seeds, which have hallucinogenic properties, and a wand as well as other objects. From these, it was concluded that she was a seeress or sorceress. The grave contained a necklace hung with three duck feet pendants very similar to this. This example is stylized indicating that it dates to the period of conversion of Vikings to Christianity, the second half of the 11th century. Pagan belief flourished, but as dedications were divided, it was practiced clandestinely.  Professionally refurbished with silver overlay and mounted on an 18” modern sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certification of authenticity.
