VIKING RITUAL SPIRIT RING, RINGJARN, 8TH-9TH CENTURY AD
Forged iron ring which represented the spirit of an enemy which was ritually killed by throwing against rocks or smashing with stones. The ritual is depicted on the Larbro stone In Gotland Sweden. This example descends from a Victorian English collection. Further information to the buyer. It is wrought iron with the fibrous grain very evident, about 7/8” diameter. It is intact and by Viking interpretation, still retains the spirit of the enemy.
