Late Roman/Byzantine period, 5th-8th century AD. Circular, just under 1” diameter, with a small base projection, perhaps representing a tear or an eye. Domed with high relief central wheel motif with a central hub and six domed terminal spokes. A common form of the Rota Fortuna adapted here by incorporating it into a larger form, probably as a concession to Christianity, with which this pagan symbol is blended. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored, on a Sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
