Gilt bronze. As expert navigators, the constellations signified mystery and power to Vikings. Lunar pendants were worn as pectorals as well as suspended from belts, other clothing, and horse harnesses. This example is just over 1 ¼” (1.26”) high with an elegant bulbous central column superimposed on the crescent moon detailed both sides with a medial swell or roll flanked by crenulated bands. Matching bulbous terminals representing Sol the sun and Mani the Moon. Small baluster column below enclosed by a double crescent base, all rendered in detail. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored. Suspended from an 18” modern gilt Sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity. Excellent detail and preservation.
