About 1" in height plus the suspension loop. Bronze, cast, and chased in detail as the crescent moon with baluster tips representing Sol the sun and Mani the moon. The field within the raised edges is occupied by a diamond motif in high relief. Above is a cone with a quartered figure, perhaps an early use of the Christian cross. If so, it was more likely borrowed as decorative rather than indicating conversion, as Vikings were not converted until the second half of the 11th century, after which they fought valiantly in the First Crusade. Exceptional quality. Excellent condition with the 24karat gold overlay restored and mounted on an 18" modern gilt neck chain for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
