The period of conversion to Christianity for Vikings. Clearly based on the Viking heart, distorted to conform to Christian restraints. Broad 1 1/8” (1.11”) with raised edge and medial. The quarter points with nubs. A curious throwback to Viking pagan religion, elements of which were blended with Christianity. Such “transitional” elements were common and persist even today in the form of superstitions and belief in the occult. The form is unmistakably Viking, with the surround identical to earlier examples and the heart form found in Viking period jewelry as well Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored, on an 18” gilt silver neck chain for modern wear.
