11th century, silvered bronze, over 7/8” width. Formed as a broad crescent representing the moon personified as Mani, with raised edges and remnants of geometric figures to the field which undoubtedly were a reference to a cosmic event with spiritual significance. Worn, from the time of its use, perhaps ritually. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored and on a modern Sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear.
