Danelaw England. Gilt bronze, over 1 5/8" of elongated conical form with butted seam and pierced terminal with its original suspension ring. Five raised decorative bands above and four at the bottom and a single punch at the midpoint. These were incorporated into larger complex necklaces similar to the Egyptian Aegis, with beads and amulets of various types. They served as noisemakers (jingles) and provided eye-catching motion in the sun. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored, on a modern gilt Sterling silver 18” neck chain. The most elaborate of these that we have seen. Handcrafted by a Viking artisan, 1000 years ago! Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
