Regular price $265.00 Sale

An original belt mount from a Roman legionary’s sword belt, mid to late 4th century AD. See Forum Ancient Coins for virtually identical examples and detailed information. Particularly decorative, this mount was, capable of protectively absorbing the impact of a sword blow. Thus, was in fact, a form of Roman armor.

This example is of particularly elegant form resembling a wheat sheaf with medial binding. It is bronze about 1 5/8” (1.65”) height with punched decoration. The surface is textured from burial. The pure silver surface is restored and mounted on an 18” silver neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
