These small globular pendants were popular among common women in ancient Rome. Some have been described as prostitute’s pendants and that view is widely published on the internet. This example is 7.8mm, over 1/4" diameter of spherical form. The bottom is faintly cut with a cross. At the time, Christians were accepted, tolerated or persecuted in various parts of the empire. The cross here is evidently a declaration balanced with caution. The pendant has been professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored. It is suspended on a Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear and is gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
