ELEGANT EASTERN EUROPEAN CHRISTIAN CROSS, 18TH-19TH CENTURY

Russia/Ukraine. Gilt bronze, just 1 1/2” (1.55”) in height. With cross beam above center and trefoil beam terminals as with the Jerusalem cross of the crusades. The front with raised borders and a vacant skeletal cross with foliate scrolls at the beam terminals. The plain as with earliest examples. The surface is slightly textured from burial with crisp details intact.
