Gilt bronze, about 5/8" total height. formed as a triangle of depressed center circles. This form is thought to derive from the Medici family coat of arms. The original symbol for pawnbrokers was three flat circles from the Medici arms as the Medici family controlled the economy in Florence. The circles were later changed to balls for visual enhancement and hung outside the shops as trade signs. As used here, the symbol probably simply refers to Florence. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored and suspended from a modern gilt neck chain. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
