FINE ROMAN LEGIONARY’S SWORD BELT MOUNT NECKLACE MID-LATE 4TH CENTURY AD

Regular price $275.00 Sale

An original belt mount from a Roman legionary’s sword belt, mid to late 4th century AD. See Forum Ancient Coins for virtually identical examples and detailed information. Particularly decorative, this mount was capable of protectively absorbing the impact of a sword blow. Thus, was in fact, a form of Roman armor. This example is of particularly elegant form resembling a wheat sheaf with baluster binding. It is bronze about 1” (1.04”) height plus the loop. It is of waisted form with transverse medial “binding”. The surface is textured from burial. The 24karat gold surface is restored and mounted on an 18” gilt silver mounted polished leather neck cord for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
