Very decorative, this mount was, capable of protectively absorbing the impact of a sword blow. Thus, was in fact, a form of Roman armor. This example is of elegant form resembling a wheat sheaf with baluster binding. It is bronze over 1 1/4” (1.30”) height with a strong medial reinforcing ridge. The surface is textured from burial. The 24karat gold surface is restored and mounted on an 18” gilt silver neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
