FINE VIKING LUNAR PENDANT NECKLACE, 10TH-11TH CENTURY AD
Just under 3/4” width. Bronze, cast, and chased in minute detail as the crescent moon with baluster tips representing Sol the sun and Mani the moon. The top with a six-ball triangle and three ball triangles to the shoulders, representing sacred astrological convergences, the specifics of which are now lost. Deeply raised ridged edge crescent. Viking worship involved the heavenly bodies on which they relied for guidance when sailing. Excellent with the 24karat gold overlay restored, for modern wear on a modern gilt neck chain. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
