Predating coinage, these tokens, sometimes called arrowhead money, were used to facilitate trade. Used within Greece proper, they were particularly useful in trade in slaves and food crops from the colonies and they were easily transported and their value universally recognized. They are bronze, refurbished, silver-plated, and suspended from an 18” sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. This example is 1 1/2” (1.48”) in length and 2700 years old!
