Medieval Signet Ring, 8th-11th C., Size 8 3/4
Period of the universal Christian conversion and the early Crusades. Size 8 3/4, with broad (4.8 mm) deeply rounded face band, slightly flared to the stepped shoulders. Oval bezel. Used to impress the signature of the owner in wax or clay, the pattern now obscured by heavy degradation from burial. Language differences and illiteracy were barriers to trade. Signets allowed for universal verification of a signature facilitating trade at distance. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored. See the reference image which shows the process. Jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
