RARE VIKING PROTECTIVE BROOCH, 10th-11th CENTURY AD
Bronze, large, just under 1 1/4" diameter of domed form. Broadband probably decorated originally, now obscured by degradation from burial. Slotted for the captive cross pin. Worn in multiples attached to leather or heavy wool jerkins, this example is easily capable of absorbing a sword blow without failure. Large iconic representative of these protective dress accessories. Professionally refurbished with the pure silver surface restored and suspended from a modern Sterling silver mounted polished leather neck cord for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
