10th-11th century AD. Vikings were highly skilled metallurgists, and as a result, breaking metal had supernatural significance for them. Breaking ringjarn (iron rings) as shown on the Larbro Stone in Gotland Sweden, was thought to destroy the spirits of enemies. Similarly, Viking weapons and accouterments were broken for burial with their owners. This is a piece of a fine Viking woman warrior’s bronze bracelet, ritually broken. It is about ½” x 3/4” and hand-decorated with a square panel enclosing a circle over cross above a segment with double dot bands. It has been professionally refurbished with a 24karat gold overlay and mounted to an 18” gilt Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. It comes with a certification of authenticity and is jewelry gift boxed. Among the very best for these.
