Rare early form known as annuli ferrei. Size 7 with raised inverted truncated cone bezel. The top with a zoomorphic figure, perhaps a horse. Surface textured from burial. Among the earliest rings worn in ancient Rome, they served as signets. More importantly, they indicated that the wearer was freeborn and not a slave. Their popularity waned until they were no longer fashionable by 100 BC. Being iron, the survival rate is very low.
