The Imperial period. About 1 ¼” height (1.21”) modeled in the full round with detailed head and tail and spread feet. The rooster was associated with Mercury. As a symbol of vigilance, eloquence, and the announcement of a new day, the rooster complemented Mercury's role as a swift herald and psychopomp (guide of souls to the underworld). Its positive role is reflected in the slightly whimsical representation here and it certainly was worn by a lady. Bronze with most original gold surface intact. On a modern gilt silver mounted polished leather neck cord for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
