A curious throwback to Viking pagan religion, elements of which were blended with Christianity. Such “transitional” elements were common and persist even today in the form of superstitions and belief in the occult. The elongated heart form is unmistakably Viking, in the early natural form, with raised edge and quartered nubs, but somewhat abstracted to obscure its pagan roots.
