Rare variation of a favorite Viking form. The coil or helix was a favorite Viking figure which probably had spiritual significance. Evidently the coil or overlapping form was used to avoid the closed circle form. By contrast, Viking wedding rings were always of the closed circular form, sometimes with a spiral or helix superimposed. This example represents an extreme Formed as a typical band but with a tapered overlap comprising about 1/3 of its circumference. The surface is lightly textured from burial with the 24karat gold overlay restored for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
