Late 10th-11th century AD, the late period of Viking pagan mythology. Formed as a crescent representing the moon which was sacred to Vikings both for navigating and as the source of light for nocturnal sailing and raiding. Inside a pierced heart, an iconic symbol for attributes of the warrior, below two circles representing Sol the sun and Mani the moon. It is just over 1/2” (0.56”) width with raised borders emphasizing the forms. Quite crisp condition. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored, on an 18” modern gilt Sterling silver neck chain. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
