11th century, silvered bronze, just over 7/8” height. The perimeter is a stylized crescent moon wrapping around with the tips embracing a trefoil. The center with a heart with a cusped top. The heart and crescent moon are the most popular motifs found in original Viking jewelry. For Vikings, the heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the warrior. It is said that Hrungnir, with whom Thor dueled (assisted by a sorceress), had a heart of stone. Professionally refurbished with the 24 karat gold overlay restored and mounted on a modern gilt neck chain for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
