10th-11th century, silvered bronze, just under 1 1/4” width (1.22”). Formed as a raised edge broad crescent with four raised crater-like figures. The significance now lost, but the connection of craters to the moon comes to mind and, as Vikings traveled to Iceland, a land of craters, that too is possibly referenced. Made by the open mold technique. Worn, from the time of its use. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored and on a modern Sterling silver 18" neck chain for contemporary wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
