Variation of this basic Viking accessory. These were worn in numbers on the surface of the jerkin, these small metal brooches provided a measure of protection against sword cuts and, in fact, were a form of armor. See current Public Television programming for documentation of these in action. As protectors, they also held spiritual significance for the warrior. 7/8" diameter (0.87”) with rounded faces forming ridged edges. The edge notched for the cross pin. This broach, had spiritual significance as well as being decorative and protective. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored, on a Sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear. Jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
