Viking conversion period dating 1050-1200. Silvered bronze, just over 7/8” in total height. Formed as a heart stylized to not offend Christian sensitivities, superimposed on a bold saltire ( St. Andrew’s cross) with a vertical stem or beam. For Vikings, the heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the warrior. That spirit was well demonstrated by their performance in the Crusades. As with most religious conversions, Vikings held on to the old values and symbols, incorporating them into their new faith. Surface textured from burial. Professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored on a Sterling silver 18" neck chain for modern wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
