10th-11th century, silvered bronze, over 7/8” width. Formed as a broad crescent representing the moon with raised nubs at the tips representing Sol the sun and Mani the moon. The field with low relief decoration somewhat obscured by wear and texture from burial. The top center with a three nub triangle which is about universal to the lunar pendants, with spiritual significance, no longer understood. Worn, from the time of its use, perhaps ritually. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored and on a modern Sterling silver 18” neck chain for contemporary wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
