RARE VIKING PROTECTIVE BROOCH 8th-9th CENTURY AD
Bronze, 2 1/4” diameter of near-flat form. Broadband with traces of hound’s tooth banding and infill. Curiously made with an overlapping seam. Slotted for the captive cross pin. Worn in multiples attached to leather or heavy wool jerkins, this example is easily capable of absorbing a sword blow without failure. Large iconic representative of these protective dress accessories. Surface textured from burial and professionally refurbished with the pure silver surface restored. Suspended from vermeil (gold over silver) mounted polished leather neck cord for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
