The period of conversion to Christianity for Vikings. A remnant of the old pagan mythology in the form of a raised edge oval with pendulant bottom, surrounding a high relief trefoil. The reference to the earlier pagan heart is unmistakable. A curious throwback to Viking pagan religion, elements of which were blended with Christianity. Such “transitional” elements were common and persist even today in the form of superstitions and belief in the occult. The form is unmistakably Viking, with the surround identical to earlier examples and the heart form found in Viking period jewelry as well. The field is of a more abstracted motif which incorporated the top cusp of the heart. Slightly under 3/4” height. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored, on a modern 18” gilt sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
