Worn in numbers on the surface of the jerkin, these small metal brooches provided a measure of protection against sword cuts and, in fact, were a form of armor. See current Public Television programming for documentation of these in action. As protectors, they also held spiritual significance for the warrior. Over 1 1/8” diameter a sharp edge. raised medial ridge each side and low relief figured field, probably foliate. Notched for the cross pin. Professionally refurbished with the pure silver overlay restored, on a Sterling silver mounted polished leather neck cord for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
