FINE ROMAN GLADIUS PENDANT NECKLACE, 1ST-3RD CENTURY AD
The period of Christ, and the persecution of Christians. Large example, just under 2" in length. Finely delineated hilt with bulbous pommel and waisted grip. Tapered blade, pierced for suspension. The forte with a series of marks on each side, probably marking years of service of the owner. Said to represent the Roman gladius sword, these were awarded to Roman soldiers wounded in battle. Professionally refurbished with silver surface, on a Sterling silver neck chain. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
