About 1 1/2” width, oval form. The body is of roped or spiral form, modeled in the full round with reeded scroll terminals. A double use of the helix or spiral which was a favorite Viking form. Original cross pin. Worn in numbers on the leather war jerkin, at an ounce each, a few pounds could be added providing significant protection against sword blows. See current Public Broadcasting for Vikings wearing a protective brooch. Very light texture from burial and the 24karat gold surface renewed.
